Imagine by John Lennon and More Inspiration for The New Year-Part 2
72
As the year is coming to an end, what better time to focus on peace and change for ourselves and the betterment of humanity.
This is the second part of my "Moments With Inspiring Movie Flashes and Poetry- Part 1" where I shared my own poetry and my lifemate's poetry flash.
I am sharing different music videos that can be listened on a lazy day and perhaps inspire you to create your own changes, or if not, then at least relax you.
Imagine- John Lennon
Peace I am aware cannot be accomplished overnight, the human condition pretty much show us this, and its discouraging at times to see that basically mankind has continued with the conflicts that are centuries old.
Yes, I am a dreamer, and at times a doer; altough I am not a Mary Poppins, or a Saint, I try to contribute to the consciousness of our world by having peace in my heart and therefore in my home, and in turn I am generally very peaceful towards family, friends and strangers, but in order to experience this, I made personal changes by letting go of what no longer worked for me.
As Lao Tzu said, we need to start with ourselves. One person at a time, can create change.
"If there is to be peace in the world, There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations, There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities, There must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors, There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home, There must be peace in the heart."
--- Lao Tzu (570-490 B.C.)
Tell Me Why-Declan Galbraith
I admit, I had never heard of this singer, who is English of Scottish-Irish origin; my lifemate shared it with me this morning, and I was moved to tears! He was only 10 years old in this clip (he is now 18) and sings with passion, as he asks the questions mankind has often asked, why is there suffering, why is there need and what can we do to help?
Michael Jackson - Man In The Mirror
Disregarding Michael Jackson's eccentric ways, (and nose) I find him a powerful performer, with yet another reminder that to make a change in the world we need to make a change within ourselves.
As Ghandi said: "Be the change, you wish to see in the world"
Words of true wisdom.
BOB DYLAN - Blowing in the Wind
This song has been described as a protest song, but the lyrics does not preach, or suggest a course of action; it lets the listener listen to the philosophical questions and come to his own answers, which are blowing in the wind - near you, your heart.
The same message of peace has been repeated worldwide for thousands of years, by spiritual leaders to philosophers (well most) and yet we still don't get it, but one day I assume we will, if not in this generation then in another one. I know... I am hopeful as many others on the path of peace are.
Thank you all for being with me through Hubpages during 2008. You are an amazing group of writers, I learned much from you.
May the New Year bring everyone love, joy, abundance and the "peace, that passes all understanding."

Thank you VioletSun for this nice and peaceful hub. I love "Imagine" by John Lennon so much I used it in one of my own hubs and I am also a big fan of Bob Dylan's peace songs. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing with us your very own kind and peaceful spirit to carry with us into the New Year. With Love ~Dottie~
Awesome hub!The words of Lao Tzu are so beautiful that it should be made into an universal prayer for world peace! We need peace in our times and lets hope and pray that we see peace in 2009.Ofcourse,Lennon's song strikes a chord with every peaceloving person!Happy New Year and God bless you and yours! :)
Beautiful song and sentiments, Marie. I can't get over the depth of emotion in the Declan Galbraith song--pass the tissues, please!
"One person at a time, can create change.". How true VioletSun. That is all we need to bring forth the power of love and light into this world and make beautiful changes of growth. Tell Me Why was sang with so much passion and many like you have already provided answers to the question. Be blessed always Violet Sun and I look forward to moving along with you in the coming year! Lovelots:)
Hi again, I sent you an email through hubpages. I hope you received it. Your reply through the email would be appreciated as I wish to communicate directly to your email address:) Thanks:)
I love this song Imagine. Thanks for linking all those hubs about peace. Even in recent times(India/Pak situation) when I see their is war mongering by some people on forums it pains me a lot. Their were some people in US who supported Bush earlier during the Iraq invasion but now the whole US is suffering due to the huge bill this war has been costing us(which according to a recent poll conducted by CNN more than 80% Americans feel going to Iraq was a big mistake in the first place). We all don't have a choice except for trying for peace. But yes since the Mumbai incident happened recently the wound is still fresh(which I can understand). I hope one day India and Pakistan live like two brothers who had to partition their house but not their hearts. The other day when I was stuck here in Snow with no groceries then the person who volunteered to get me groceries was from Pakistan. I really don't understand why people want to kill each other without anything to be gained from such a war and yes if somebody commits a mistake like Russia/USA that doesn't mean we have to do the same too. We should take good examples to emulate and not all examples set by Russia/USA are bad too(trying to put things in perspective).
Okay done. I hope it works this time:)
Violet- I often say this that we have all the religions in the world to divide each other but not enough to love each other. Yes you are right each of us is part of some family. Each of us if we live for the religion called love and be part of the family called humanity then most of the issues would have some solution. We have to be considerate and deal with issues responsibly. War isn't the solution rather it can further complicate any situation.
It is so sad to see such a wonderful young boy's life was snatched away at such a young age. But never the less he left behind many wonderful memories. I liked the hub which Ananta wrote which(I mentioned in my hubs list) says what do we want to be remembered for after we die. It really changes our perspective as the things that we consider important lose their significance if we see our lives in a reverse order i.e, from death to present time. I hope you do read that hub. Thanks for that personal touching memory of your loving nephew.
Thanks a lot for linking Lita's hub. She is a very thoughtful and knowledgeable person. I was about to leave my apartment for meeting some one then I thought I would wish one last time everyone here Happy New Year 2009. Enjoy the last few hours of 2008. Have a great time everyone.
I love the John Lennon song Imagine and I always will. Happy New Year to you!
Thanks for the link to my hub on quotations, VioletSun, :). Nice hub, yourself!!
Hi VioletSun, I'm back!!!! Hahaha wow, what a lovely collection of songs. There is much to reflect on about this topic and today I know it is about finding peace within me. And then I can start sharing that peace with others. :-) Keep sharing your "sun" and love to the world! Happy New Year Marie!
This is a great hub, VioletSun. Wow, does that little boy have a voice! I'm a Beatlemaniac, so it's a given that I just love Imagine - it can make me cry.
I think that the best way for the world to find peace is like you said, we have to find peace in ourselves. If everyone was peaceful, there would be only harmony and love. Good things can grow from the current situation, both globally and individually. That is a beautiful thought.
Thanks for writing this hub, VS. Sorry I found it so late. I'm behind in my reading.
Hope you had a good New Year's and 2009 is peaceful for you.
VS, don't you think that John's message of peace was made even stronger because his death came from violence? It was such a horrific shock that someone like him could die that way. I still grapple with it and every time I do, I remember John's stance of peace. I can't think of anything else good that came from that shocking event. If it serves to remind people of his message, then at least there was a positive spin.
LOL Thanks, that is sweet of you. I have been thinking of you guys while I was away. This hubaholic had to contend with no hubbing for a few days. Gosh. Good thing there was a lot of fun in Disney. Hehe I'm off to work now but just wanted to share that my name came about because I was born on 71' and the beatles were hot then. :-) Peace be with you my friend.
Happy new year! All the best for you and your family.
First time I read about Lao Tzu and I liked it, very wise words, and yes one person cannot change the world, but one person can start change J
Lovely choices! :)
Blowin' in the Wind and Imagine are timeless classics!
Wonderfully stated & awesome hub Violet!
Thank you Violet for sharing!
When I was in S. Korea I used this song to teach English - the students and teachers loved it. I used a few others as well - nothing is more international and effective than music. Great song here! We have to dream and then we can make it happen!

Peace won't fill the pockets of those who pile up their fortunes thanks to others' misfortune. That's why we don't have peace...

There are many songs past and present written by talented song writers that has really beautiful messages in them. My personal fave is Phil Collins " Just another day in Paradise" The music the lyrics and his voice never fails to touch me in a very deep way which leaves me sad and warm all over once the song comes to an end. Songs are a very powerful media which can change people to become better human beings.
Miss Violet i noticed how beautiful you look in your profile photo. You are not only beautiful on the outside, you are a very gorgeous woman at heart too. I admired your spirit after i read your hearing impaired hub. I wondered at your ability to show love and support for others no matter what the circumstances were when i chanced upon your comments and posts in previously published hubs and forum posts. To me you are a compassionate human being and a true inspiration to everyone who gets to know you. Why im saying all this to you here is because i saw you thanking others and i felt since you touched me with your love and spirit many times its only right i tell you how much i love you as this year comes to a close. I have a song that i wish to dedicate to you and i hope you will get a chance to listen to it when you are free. Happy New Year Miss Violet.
Melanie C and Lisa Left Eye Lopez... "Never be the same again".
