Thanksgiving Musings

On this cool, rainy Thanksgiving Day, as I look out the window of my office, I see trees, tons of them, some are still green, and others have leaves falling off, branches have broken, and I think of the contrasts life can give us. How perception literally creates reality. I choose to see the contrast of trees almost as a poem or painting adorning my space, and for this I am grateful.
I am grateful that no matter what happens in life, we have the awesome power of our spirit to transcend and learn from all our experiences. To live with this awareness, creates openings to connect to life, not from a place of fear and the limitations it brings, but from a place of strength, grace and inspiration. We all have these gifts.
I think of Nelson Mandela who was imprisoned for 30 years for conspiring to eliminate apartheid in South Africa. He was able to experience transcendence, a growth of his spirit, and walked out with the ability to touch many humans worldwide, even let go of his anger towards the white man. He went to win the Nobel Peace for transforming the government of South Africa from oppression to a multi racial democracy. For humans like him, I am grateful.
Gratitude Quotes
At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. - Albert Schweitzer
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. Meister Eckhart
Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others. Cicero
I have for the past year, laughed, and cried, and have been inspired as I read the hubs of the talented group of writers we have here. You may not know it, but when you open up your heart and share, when you give a tip to cook a healthier meal, when you share a poem, a PhotoShop creation, art, a healing modality, your thoughts on the nature of reality, a book you read, information about the Bach remedies, a story about aliens, or when you simply rant, it all becomes a part of the tapestry of my day. I don't see it as a "waste" as some people may consider the online world to be, I see it as an enhancement, a window to the world, a connection between the writer and me, even if its for a few minutes. It blends in well with my "real" life of managing a business and writing.
Thanksgiving is an American holiday, but I include my friends who reside outside the USA in my Happy Thankgiving wishes, as everyday is an opportunity to be grateful for the different shades and tones that make up our life experience.
We are all connected in spirit and I thank you all for being a part of my life!
Happy Thanksgiving!

VioletSun, I am so grateful to have 'fanned' you, for your outlook on the world is fabulously refreshing. Yes, I also see the possibilities in the world as a tapestry, a window to more and more enlightenment.
Just beautiful!
Beautiful musings and writing! And I give thanks for intelligent spirits like yours here in Hub-world.
For me, Thanksgiving is a time to gracefully honor what has passed: ancestors, family ties, friendships, lovers and all personal relationships/connections, events, creations, and memories themselves. "Passed" as in it has already occurred (but is not necessarily finished for us). It's a celebration of all gifts received throughout our lives, up to the present; staying within the moment. I primarily view it as such because Spring, for me, is the true "New Year." And each of these gifts are to be cherished and invested in our lives like gold coins, up until the Spring-- when these "investments" are augmented by new directions and inspirations to come. The "investments" mature, giving way for newly-grown "gifts" to flourish within our Selves-- yielding a truly strong foundation for spiritual, emotional and even physical health. It all interweaves, forming the beautiful tapestry you have presented here.
I try not to anticipate it; but, each year, I look forward to the Spring.
I celebrate your insights! Thanks!
As I read what you were seeing outside your window, the trees, I was there with you. I really was pulled into that moment. I like your writing. You're in Oreegon, too? Isn't it beautiful in this area? Have a great weekend!
Happy Thanksgiving to you Marie! What a beautiful way of sharing this American celebration of Thanks and Giving. Most remember the thanks part, but you remembered the giving part....what a nice gift you wrote of the importance of each of us in one anothers lives and the great impact sharing has as you shared more of your awareness of blessings. The blessing is mutual, thanks for the blessings you bring into my world too.....Sue
Thanksgiving was a week ago and I was in Oakland, California with some of my wife's family. I read your hub while down there, but didn't have time to respond before. The hub was just great and very inspiring. You do have a gift for putting feelings, descriptions, and settings into words.

Yes, really true. WE have so much to be thankful for. And I pray for the troops who are out there so far away from their families especially during the holiday. That they may find peace and joy all throughout despite their situation. Thank you for you sharing.
Happy New Year Mary, wishing you all the best: joy, love, success from all my heart.
I'd like to celebrate thanksgiving today for the friendship I have found in you. As the new year has started, may it bring forth more and more of what you create it to be as you allow your being to radiate. Your love and spirit shines brightly as you inspire and touch people's lives. To Marie and Phil, happy new year. Blessings, love, light and peace to both of you. God bless. :)
as always i enjoy the visit.....

Luckily we had a beautiful sunny day in NY on this day. It might sound childish but I amused myself for about an hour glued to the TV set in the morning, watching live coverage of the colorful procession in Times Square. The excitement on the faces of people present at Times Sq was worth seeing. It was just a news channel but I couldn't quit watching. Credit goes to those happy faces which made me smile just by looking at them. Such a wonderful way to connect with others sharing the same planet as we do. Thx for putting across your thoughts in such a beautiful way. Happy Thanksgiving!
